Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS GARAGE PLUS STORAGE?

faq01Garage Plus Storage is a premiere garage/storage facility. In addition to the individual garages, there’s a members clubhouse, an RV dump station and even a dedicated car/RV wash station. It is the largest and most technologically advanced storage facility in the state of Washington. In fact, it might even be the largest in the entire United States. We are the only storage complex in Pierce County that has been approved for “active storage“. This means that the units may be used as workshops or home garages.

WILL I PAY ANY DUES AT GARAGE PLUS STORAGE?

faq02Yes, there are garage members dues. They are between $80 – $247 per month depending on the square footage of your unit. These dues cover the landscape and maintenance of all the common spaces including the complete upkeep of the clubhouse, the full time office and site manager, the radiant heat in the floor, access to the on site car wash, oil & antifreeze recycle, RV grey/black water dump station, and the state of the art security system.

CAN I LIVE IN MY GARAGE?

faq03No, you can’t live in your garage due to code restrictions in Pierce County. Your garage storage unit is a place to escape to, and use for fun, store your items, business materials, and or prized possessions. Not a permanent residence.

CAN I WORK ON MY CAR IN MY GARAGE?

faq04Yes! This is one of the unique differences about Garage Plus Storage. The mini-storage code for Pierce County restricts the amount of work you can do in regular storage units. What would be the point of having these big work shop sized units if you couldn’t do anything in them? Well, Garage Plus worked diligently with the county for a lengthy period of time to secure the one and only Active Use Permit the county has ever issued, just for you.

CAN I RUN A BUSINESS OUT OF MY GARAGE?

faq05Yes and no. You cannot use your garage as a retail store front and have customers coming in and out all the time. You can store business materials or inventory and write it off on your taxes as a business expense though!

CAN I STORE MY BOAT OR MOTOR HOME AT GARAGE PLUS STORAGE?

faq06Yes. Garage Plus has a garage size for every type of motorized vehicle. In our King Plus which is our largest garage, you can park the biggest motor home legal to drive, put the bump-outs out, and still have room to walk around your RV! Ever have a hard time backing up that boat and trailer into a certain size unit? Get on the waiting list for the Double! It has a garage door on each end keeping your life simple!

WHAT ARE THE INTERIOR CEILING HEIGHTS?

faq07With rare exception they are seventeen feet high when you step into your garage and climb to a peak of twenty feet. Yes, high enough to have a car lift or loft which is a great way to add square footage to your unit; this was a must!

WHAT TYPE OF INSURANCE DO I NEED FOR MY GARAGE CONDO?

faq09Garage Plus insures the building and the property, you insure the contents.

HOW DO I BECOME A GARAGE PLUS MEMBER?

faq11Call 253-875-9850 or schedule an appointment to take a tour of the site in Spanaway. You can also try to just stop in between 9am and 6pm Tuesday through Saturday. You can tour the site, check out completed garages and view two showroom units decked out with all kinds of options. We will work with you to help you lease your space at Garage Plus.

WHY LEASE AT GARAGE PLUS WHEN I CAN BUILD MY OWN GARAGE?

faq12Well this is entirely up to the person and their preferences, but here are the benefits as to why it is better to lease at Garage Plus rather than build on your own land.

1. First, you must purchase the land if you don’t already have it to build on. You must then go through the county’s process to obtain building permits.
Third, you must bid out the materials and hire a sub contractor to build your garage, or, build it yourself.
2. You won’t have the added security of Garage Plus’s state of the art security system.
3. You probably won’t be doing radiant heating in your floor since your just building one garage and installing all the piping and boilers is not practical or cost effective.
4. If you happen to move and sell your house and garage you just built, you’re going to have to build another one!
5. You also won’t have access to our active member’s clubhouse and park areas, the RV dump and waste water station, and the onsite car wash.
6. Plus you won’t be meeting and hanging out with new people that share the same interests as you.

HOW LATE CAN I WORK IN MY GARAGE?

faq13Although you can’t live in your garage, Garage Plus never closes. You can work or hang out in your garage however long and whenever you need to regardless of the hour. Local noise ordinance rules and laws apply.
